3rd. Chapter: Rebounding
"... Over 16
years ago, when I started my research and the eBA System of Basketball Analysis one
of the original objectives was to find a way to indicate how many points a player
contributed to his team by scoring, rebounding, assisting, stealing, blocking shots or
whatever else there could be contributing to points scored. ..."
"... The 'points created' by a rebound or blocked shot is hard to define with the
linear formulas. Someone may score points because of a rebound or a blocked shot: but what
the percentage of those points should be credited to the rebounder. ..."
"... A rebound or blocked shot may not lead to a score, so assigning an 'average
value' to all rebounds and blocked shots may be inaccurate.
So, I classify initially the rebounds:
- rebounds for fast breaks; for set offense; for points scored; rebounds off turnover

COM is
proud to announce the final stage of the 3rd. Edition of our project
eBA System - The Basketball Analysis.
This edition will be distributed by the first time openly on-line; meanwhile the two
former editions were limited to eBA Associated teams and Coaches.
The 40 Minutes version is based on the Analysis of the Final Game of the EuroLeague 2004,
on 01/05/04; meanwhile the 48 Minutes version is based on the Final Game of the N.B.A.
2004.

Q: If a player fall
to the ground with the ball is it traveling ? In the rule book it says if a player
slides with the ball it is legal. When it's forced and when is unforced
according to the eBA System ?
A: Traveling is:
- moving the pivot foot in excess of prescribed limits;
- holding the ball and then touching the floor with other than the feet or hands, while
still holding the ball.
The part of the question about sliding, refers to diving for the ball an the momentum of
the dive causing the slide. This is legal. Once a player is "stopped" the player
can't - legally - slide.
Resuming the answer: traveling is progressing in any direction while in possession
of the ball, which is in excess of prescribed limits as noted in Rule 4 - Section VIII
and Rule 10 - Section XIV. Forced or unforced it depends upon the
action of the opponent player.
