“I’ve been asked what I was looking for in a head coach. As a first priority, I wanted a head coach with documented
success as a head coach, at the Division I level, with experience at the Division I level at the level at which we aspire to compete.
That’s to be a nationally relevant program in men’s basketball.
“I wanted someone who understood Creighton, who understood the Missouri Valley Conference, who understood the Midwest, and who understood what it
was to be the head coach of a major college basketball program in this country.
“I wanted someone with great passion for the game. Great intelligence in teaching the game, and great character. And great character was of critical
importance to me.
“I wanted someone who was a great family man, and understood the emotions that these young men and their parents feel. I know how much Greg
loves his wife, Theresa, and his kids, Nick, Doug and Sydney, and that was very important to me.
“I wanted someone who was a great teacher and who had demonstrated the ability to develop players individually or as a group.
“And I am confident as you get to know coach Greg McDermott, you will see that he is an absolutely perfect fit for that vision.” Creighton Director of Athletics Bruce Rasmussen

"Over the year since we've opened this building, the coverage that the
university has gotten is unbelievable, and it's well deserved," said
UTA athletic director Jim Baker. "Anything national just puts the
spotlight on us."
This week, that national spotlight singled out head
coach Scott Cross, who was named by Forbes magazine as one of the top
ten coaches at the mid-major level.
"I was humbled and grateful to be included with those great coaches,"
Cross said. "Obviously, it's a tribute to my staff and the players that
we've had, because — bottom line — you have to have a great staff;
you've got to have great players in order to win basketball games."
"I think its just a tribute to what Scott has done over his years
here," Baker added. "Nothing surprises me with that, and it's something
that's well deserved."

"... You are standing in the Baylor Bears locker room before a recent
game. This might be the loudest locker room in sports. A high-tech
speaker system blares hip-hop — “I Did It For My Dawgs,” by DJ Khaled,
“I’m Different,” by 2 Chainz — and it’s so loud you have to lean in if
you want to hear anyone talking (Coaches put clean versions of the
songs on their pre-game playlist, not explicit versions. This is still
a Baptist school, after all). This is so much a part of this team’s
identity that they bring their speaker system to road games.
The philosophy of how Baylor treats its players is borne right out of
Drew’s personality: Be positive. Nurture these kids, don’t tear them
down. ..." Reid

Andrew Grantz has taken elements of two very popular offenses, the Read and React and the Dribble Drive Motion, and made them into his own system - The Attack and React Offense.
This offense will allow you to teach players how to play basketball and not just how to run set plays. There are so many different options and phases that you can pick and choose
what you need to exploit your team's strengths and hide your team's weaknesses.
In this DVD, Coach Grantz introduces 16 different phases of the offense, starting with the most basic, and shows how you how you can successfully use as many or as few as you need.
Using whiteboard diagrams and on-the-court demonstrations, each phase is broken down into a specific reaction that builds on another phase.

"... Coach Schmidt is a great recruiter who has had a tremendous amount of success in the Midwest and has even branched out to find players in the South.
He has graduated players to
high-major conferences including the Big Ten, Big East, SEC and ACC.
Many of his players have found success at the mid-major level over the years including in the MAC.
During his career he has coached 15 All-Americans and three National Player of the Year Award winners. Sophomore John Taylor, a guard from the west side of Chicago, has a great chance
to be his fourth.
I could tell you a lot of stories that would outline the above mentioned blueprint in words, knowing that the mark of a great coach is more than just about wins and losses; but,
I also know that coaching at a high level is a bottom-line business and winning championships is the difference between good and great.
Coach Schmidt is married to the game. ..." Jared Field in

NCAA Division I team.
She took over a team in turmoil at Oklahoma and brought it into the national spotlight in 2002 when her team went to the National Championship game.
In 2005–2006 Coale's Sooners went 16–0 in Big 12 play and became the second Big 12 basketball team, men's or women's, to go undefeated in conference play.
The University of Kansas men's basketball team went undefeated in Big 12 play in the 2001–2002 season.
In 2008 the Sooners finished tied with two other teams for 3rd in the Big 12 Conference and were knocked out by Missouri in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament.

Larry Brown's multiple professional and collegiate coaching and playing stops have deeply intertwined him in the Kansas/UNC coaching trees. Brown's college basketball coach when he
played at UNC, Dean Smith, was a player under legendary Kansas basketball coach Phog Allen, who in turn was coached at Kansas by James Naismith, the inventor of basketball.
Larry Brown then became head coach of Kansas himself and upon his departure was replaced by UNC alum Roy Williams, who later returned to coach at UNC. Current Kansas head coach Bill

"... Being a player really helped me coach !
I think being a player and being one who’s not too far removed from being a Division I athlete, I can understand what they’re going through really well.
I think a lot of us when we leave college, we all of a sudden believe that we never took a day off in practice or we started all of our papers three weeks in advance – and that’s not necessarily the case.
So I think being as young as I am can allow me to relate to some of the things that they’re going through and I have a real pulse on exactly what they’re doing on a day-to-day basis. ..." Andy Toole

"... A few years ago, we were so upset when we lost in the Missouri Valley finals to Northern Iowa and did not get a bid, we went to the NIT and lost in the first round.
Last year, I went to the players and said, "Look, if we’re not going to approach this like we want to win it, I’m not accepting the bid. You guys tell me."
They had a closed-door meeting to decide and I honestly didn’t know which way it would go. That group re-dedicated themselves and it carried over into this season.
No doubt our guys have a chip on their shoulder. They’d love to get a piece of some of those quote-unqoute high-major programs. If you don’t bar the stadium door on us, you better be careful ! ..." Gregg Marshall

In just one season, NC State head coach Mark Gottfried propelled the Wolfpack basketball program back into the national spotlight.
Under his direction, the Pack earned its first NCAA Tournament berth since 2006 and made its first Sweet 16 appearance since 2005. For Gottfried, this was not unfamiliar territory
as he has now made 18 trips to the Big Dance as either a player or coach.
He became only the second coach in ACC history to lead his team to a pair of NCAA Tournament victories
in his initial season and he was one of seven first-year coaches in 68-team tournament field.
Gottfried became the third Wolfpack coach to direct his team to the NCAA Tournament in his first season, joining Press Maravich (1965) and Les Robinson (1991) to accomplish the feat.

“... We’re going to get up and down, we’re going to run. We’re going to be tough for defenses to prepare against, because we’re going to spread the court. ...... We’ve got to be able to be a tough team defensively.
You’re so consumed by what you do as a coach you don’t have enough time. It’s every day of the year, there’s no offseason for us as a coach. So you don’t get a chance to really go back and evaluate other programs. You don’t get a chance [to], as much as you would like to, look at what you do and how you do it. ......
And I think the TV experience was really beneficial for me to be able to see so many coaches, so many teams in games and practices talking to other coaches about what they do, how they do it. The mistakes that they’ve learned from, and I think it’s made me a better coach as I reflected on some things that were successful for me and some things that weren’t. ...” Coach Keno Davis

The 17th head coach in the history of the Rutgers men’s basketball program, Mike Rice has made a definite impact on Garden State hoops and will continue to push the Scarlet Knights to

Rice balances an indomitable courtside manner with an approachable, self-deprecating persona off the hardwood. In his two seasons “On the Banks,” he has directed RU to many tangible

“You can’t learn to be taller or faster, but you can learn how to put the ball through the hoop.” That philosophy shaped Coach Herb Magee entire career and served him well on the road to becoming

Fred Hoiberg, the man they call "The Mayor" -- one of the truly great nicknames in college hoops history -- won't be leaving his mayoral chair anytime soon. Because late Tuesday
night, that chair became considerably more gilded.
That's when Iowa State announced that Fred Hoiberg, the second-year coach, former star, Ames native and all-around Cyclones legend had agreed with the school to a hefty contract
extension. The extension will replace Hoiberg's current five-year, $4.5 million deal with an eight-year contract worth $1.5 million per year, keeping Hoiberg signed until the 2021
season.
The most popular man in the history of Iowa State basketball, who resurrected his former program from its near-decade-long doldrums in his second season, who bolstered his team with
near-term transfers and is building it with long-view recruiting, and who also -- guess what? -- can really coach ... just signed an eight year deal doubling his salary through the
