Statistics: they never tell the whole story, but they don't lie, either.
At half time of basketball games anywhere, you can see coaches studying the stat sheet before addressing their respective teams.
The stat sheet provides all the incriminating evidence that the coach needs to see: who's being outplayed, who's got the hot hand from the three-point range and so on.




But I always remains in doubt.... stats quantify the game.... they never tell the whole story..... they don't lie..... but something is lacking.... either !

If a basketball game were decided as if it were a trial - in court - then statistics would be the evidence that each side would use to make its case. Points scored, of course, is the single most important piece of evidence, but other stats, as assists, rebounds, and turnovers, usually offer convincing proof as to which team outplayed the other - and won the game.

But you, the eBA Team, states the following at the article "basketball Analysis" at "The Method:




"About the Rankings: The ranking and ratio stats have a tremendous appeal to coaches and are very useful, specially at half time recess, but only if they are based on absolutely true statistical data."
In our opinion, if there are a simple doubt about the data, its preferable not to use this type of stats for a box score at a live game.
In another words, you states, Ranking or Ratio Stats must be applied only at the post game analysis work, particularly after the Video Analysis.

So ! Barry, that's the matter !
Traditional statistics in real time team-works, use excessively the option "Team Player"; because of lack of time to determine which player caused the opponent TO, or because of lack of knowledge about the game.
Traveling or a bad control outside ball of an opponent, are immediately registered as a TO by the stats men during a game. But the STeal of our player causing directly the walking or the outside ball by executing, for example, a good double team defense or a quick footwork, not always is registered...

And so the eBA System  is created !

After years of trying to find out how certain basketball statistics ( Field Goals; Free Throws; Personal Fouls; Turnovers; 3 Pointers; Blocks and Steals ) affect winning percentage for a basketball team, our conclusion is that while a rise in each stat have some affect in the rise or fall of winning percentage, we could not determine a single stat that had a direct affect on the dependent variable: the Winning Percentage.



So our results are more effective when we run the system on how the combination of all stats affected winning percentage, however this would be obvious given the nature of our study: the eBA basketball Statistics Creative Analysis System.
