* Simultaneous Fouls: about Rule 7-5-9

This topic is resumed: see below.

This a question about a throw-in spot for simultaneously personal fouls:

1)  A1 foul B1 and B2 fouls A2. Team A has the AP arrow. Where is the throw-in administered?
2) Same situation but team B has the AP arrow. Where is the throw-in administered.
3) Which are both cases stats-men rules.

Case 1) Because A gets possession, administer the ball nearest the infraction on B2. No possession change, so only the fouls register for the stats-man.

Rule 7-5-9 includes simultaneous fouls and add a note that the spot for the throw-in is determined by the foul of the team not entitled to the alternating possession throw-in.

So, if I understand right: the throw-in is  atof the foul committed by the team NOT getting possession of the ball. Ok ?

That's correct, and the throw-in is administered at the spot nearest to B2's foul.
In the case 2, Team B has the AP arrow: the throw-in is taken at the spot nearest A1's foul.

This post RESUMES the topic.

PENALTY FOR DOUBLE FOULS CHANGED TO POINT OF INTERRUPTION
2006/06 Revisions to basketball Rules 7-59 and 7-5-10: The penalty for double personal, double technical and simultaneous fouls has been changed from an alternating-possession throw-in to resuming play from the point it was interrupted.

A new definition of "point of interruption" has also been added to the rules book. If the point of interruption cannot be determined e.g., unsuccessful try in flight, the alternating-possession arrow will be used. The committee which made this change felt that no team should benefit from a double foul and the fouls will be charged to the players of each team and the ball will be put back in play. Under the previous rule, if the alternating-possession arrow favored the defense, the defense would be awarded the ball, benefiting from the foul act. It is hoped that the change will increase the likelihood of double fouls being called more often when warranted.

This summary resumes this topic and will be completed at the "Rules" chapter of the eBA basketball Statistics Analysis System.  Another basketball rules topics you'll find at the basketball Rules Discussions section of our eBA Stats.com site.
