I received the following definition of Floor Percentage:
Scoring
Possessions divided by possessions. The percentage of a
team's
or individual's possessions on which at least one point is scored.
May somebody explain its
applicability?

This method applies in a straight manner to teams. The
method is more complicated in applying to individuals because scoring possessions and
possessions are more complicated to define for individuals.
Floor % is used to measure offensive efficiency. The not so obvious reason it can be used that
way is because almost all scoring possessions for all teams involve 2 points being scored, not
one point or three points.
A normal game might have one team scoring 57 of 100 possessions and the other on 54 of 100
possessions.
The team scoring on 57% of its possessions will win 99% of the times.

By definition, Floor Percentage is referred to
"scoring possessions divided by the total of the possessions".
This method is
applied by the eBA
Basketball Statistics Analysis System to teams and individuals, being more complicated
for individuals because scoring possessions and possessions are more
complicated to define for individuals.
To calculate the Team Floor Percentage there are a few ways:
1. Sum the individuals' scoring possessions and total possessions and divide.
2. Use the methods explained in this site in "The Method"
and at "The
Formulas" for team scoring possessions and total possessions, then divide.
3. Use the "power percentage".
And, as Sandra asked for, go to The eBA Formulas to study calculating all the formulas
presented.

Floor % is used by the eBA Basketball
Statistics Analysis System to
measure offensive efficiency from the principle that almost all scoring possessions
for all teams involve two points being scored, not one point or three points.
Power% = ( FG + OR ) / ( FGA + TO )
You can see it's analysis and discussion of the Floor Percentage Stats
at The eBA Formulas
and The eBA System.

We'll resume this excellent topic with this commentary:
there is a possibility
to win a game scoring
in a 54% +/- of the possessions: scoring in a sufficient quantity of possessions 3
pointers and/or that the opponent will have a great quantity of his 57 possessions ended
in 1 point.
This post
resumes & closes this topic and will be completed at the "Statistics"
chapter of the eBA
Basketball Statistics Analysis System. Another Basketball statistics topics
you'll find at the Basketball Statistics Discussions section of our eBA Stats.com site.
