Air Ball (Pelota al aire). Un sarcástico término para describir un
lanzamiento que no toca el aro ni el tablero.
Altered shot. When a blocker changes the shooter shot
causing the shooter to miss the basket.
Assist. The last pass
to a teammate that lead directly to a basket.
Any assist is credited to the player tossing the last pass leading directly to a field goal, if and only if the player scoring the
goal responds by demonstrating immediate reaction toward the basket.
No more than one assist is to be credited for each field goal.
An in-bounds pass can be an assist, if it
leads directly to a field goal.

Convert. To make a free-throw.
Charge or Charging. An illegal offensive play in which an
offensive player runs into a defender who has already planted his feet and established his stationary
defensive position and is essentially motionless. If the defender hasn't established
position, it is blocking, a defensive foul. See

Charge Drew. When a defensive
player steps in front of an opponent and get a charging
call resulting in a turnover for the opponent.

Defensive Board. 1. The backboard behind the basket a
team is defending. 2. A defensive rebound.
Defensive Rebound. A defensive
rebound is credited to a player each time he
retrieves a live ball immediately following a field goal attempt or a free-throw
attempt that is missed by an opponent.
Double-Double. A term indicating that a player has
accumulated at least 10 units in two statistical categories (e.g. 10 points and 10
rebounds constitute a double-double.)
Double Figures. Ten or more units in any statistical
category.

Field goal -FG- (Anotación de campo). Un lanzamiento
exitoso, cuando la pelota entra en la canasta por
arriba durante el juego. Una anotación que puede valer dos o tres puntos, dependiendo de
si fue hecha desde adentro o afuera de la línea de tres puntos (marcada a 22 pies -6.25
metros- del aro). También conocido como un "hoop",
"bucket" or "basket".
Field Goal Attempts (FGA). A Field Goal
Attempt will be
charged to a player every time he shoots, throws or taps a live ball at his
opponents
basket when he is attempting to score a goal (except when he is fouled in the act of
shooting and the goal is not made.)
4-Point Play. A 3-point
shot scored followed by a successful free throw.
Free throw (Tiro Libre). Un lanzamiento sin marca tomado
desde la foul line, distante 15 pies -4.60 metros-, que
vale un punto. Fouls shots are awarded when the opposing teams fouls a player in the act
of shooting, or when the opposing team commits a
foul against a team that is already in the "bonus".
A player who is fouled while in act of shooting receives two or three free throws,

Quadruple-double (Cuádruple doble). Un logro muy raro
(sólo ha ocurrido cuatro veces en todos los tiempos de la NBA) cuando un jugador acumula
cifras dobles en cuatro de los siguientes categorías en un mismo partido: puntos,
rebotes, asistencias, balones robados y bloqueos.
Rebote (Rebound). When a player grabs a ball that is
coming off the rim or backboard after a shot
attempt. v. To Gather in and gain control of a missed shot; n. A missed shot
that is retrieved.

Shooter. A player who takes a shot at the basket.

Team Rebound. A team rebound is recorded when a team
gains possession as a result of a missed shot, but no one player gains control of the
ball.

Time Played. For the Official Statistics Interpretations,
time is computed by full minutes only. If a player enters the game and appear for only one
second he is given credit for a full minute. The rule of thumb is to
subtract the
partial minute from the player he replaces.
Tip-in (Cachetear). Empujar o cachetear un lanzamiento
errado dentro del aro. Un "Put Back" en nuestra terminología del análisis de

Traveling (Caminar, Pasos). A floor violation in which the ball handler
commits a double dribble or takes more than the
allowed two steps without dribbling the ball, after
stopping his/her dribble on a drive to the basket.
Anytime a player possessing the ball is no dribbling, he must keep one foot - the pivot foot - planted on the floor, and he may not move
it, or he is penalized for traveling. Results in a loss of possession. Also called: walking.
Turnovers. When the offense
loses possession through its own fault by passing
the ball out of bounds or committing a floor violation, without attempting either a field goal or a free
throw.
