Points Off Turnovers

From the Global Basketball Directory:
Points off Turnovers are the points given by our TO or made by the ones forced to the opponent.
When the turnover points are committed by the offense in large numbers, or on the third quarter of the court, or just at inopportune times, they can cost a team the game no matter what the rest of the box score says.

Basketball games aren't won or lost simply according to the number of points a team makes or receives, rebounds taken or permitted, or even time of possession. Though those statistics can have a very real impact on the outcome of a contest, they are not the ultimate determinants of the result. The final score takes care of that matter. And no matter how unevenly balanced the official stats may appear, one figure that isn't even reported in an official box score can have the decisive effect of making all the other numbers meaningless. That figure is turnover points. When committed by the offense in large numbers. or on the third quarter of the court, or just at inopportune times, they can cost a team the game no matter what the rest of the box score says.
More of the third of all regular season games played, are "decided by" points off turnovers. When it is said here that turnover scores were the "deciding factor" in a game, eBA System mean that the turnover points led to one team wining the game and the other losing, and without such turnovers, the won-lost result have been switched.
Points are attributable to turnovers in one of two ways - directly or indirectly. By "directly" leading to a score, eBA System mean that a fumble recovery or interception was returned for a fast break attack, and a score in the First 4/6 seconds of the shooting clock ( see the Shooting Clock ). Consequently, by "indirectly" leading to points, we mean that a fumble recovery or interception return immediately led to a set offense play which culminated in a field goal in the second sequence of the shooting clock, after 6/8 seconds play till 24; the turnover did not produce any points in and of itself, but the tem did score on the ensuing offensive play.
For the Points Off Turnovers stats the eBA System consider those turnovers leading directly to a score, in the current possession, in the first 4/6 seconds of the shooting clock.
